A beautiful piece of mid-century textile history, this patchwork Ohio Star quilt displays classic American quilting and resourcefulness. It's what's known as "scrappy," meaning that a variety of different & mixed fabrics were used to complete it. These fabrics were often leftover, or "scraps" - a method that reflects the "mend and make-do" attitude that prevailed during the depression era.
The result of a scrappy quilt is usually an eclectic and charming piece of history. In this case, a mix of feedsacks, calicos, and shirting fabrics come together in a cheerful patchwork of star and nine-patch blocks. This quilt has been loved by time, and some of the fabrics are worn out, and the binding is frayed in some spots. It's a good quilt to display on a chair, wall, or end of the bed, especially if you are a lover of American history.
